Thinking Big with Grade 3 Reporters

By October 22, 2025No Comments2 min read

What’s the scoop? With a notebook in hand and a big imagination, our budding third-grade journalists take turns being the class reporter each week. This isn’t just another job, this role incorporates students’ love of writing and storytelling with detailed organization and accountability. The class reporter’s responsibility is to take notes about what the class does each day, such as science experiments, field trips, reading time, PE, and fun projects. At the end of the week, the reporter writes a short article to publish in the classroom newsletter.

Last week, Zev took on the role of Class Reporter and was eager to write about their Service Learning trip to Loaves & Fishes, as well as their current math unit on division. Filippo was the reporter for the first week of school and he commented, “It is a really important job because you get to tell everyone what happened during the week and parents get to read it in the newsletter and know what’s happening at our school. They really like that.”

Since the beginning of the school year, different journal entries have highlighted the daily happenings in class: “We had our first gym class,” “We went on our Outdoor Education trip,” “In Technology, we learned what to expect for the year,” and “In Art, we did abstract drawing.”

Yet one phrase has echoed in nearly every entry: “We had an amazing week!”
