Letter to Families Regarding School Closing/Coronavirus Response

By March 12, 2020January 19th, 2024No Comments2 min read

Dear St. Thomas’s Day School Families,

For the health and well-being of our immediate and extended community, we have decided to close St. Thomas’s Day School after March break and move to a remote learning model effective Monday, March 23, 2020. The school will remain closed through Friday, April 3, 2020. As we approach April 6, we will reassess the situation and communicate next steps. We will provide information sufficiently in advance of that date to allow for future planning.

Please know we did not make this decision lightly, for we recognize it has a significant impact on many of our families and employees.  We have chosen to make this decision today so that you have a week to plan for your child. While we had hoped it would not be necessary to close our school, we are grateful to have a solid plan for learning continuity. We will be in touch in the coming days with more details about a remote learning schedule and basic expectations around attendance, projects, assignments, homework etc.

What families can do to prepare:

  • Be sure all devices are charged and in good working order.
  • Have headphones available, if needed.
  • Secure a quiet workspace.
  • Reassure your child/children that this is temporary and manageable.

Please contact Sarah Walters at swalters@stthomasday.org if your child needs access to a technology device. We will do our best to provide devices for students who need them.

Thank you for your partnership as we move to remote learning.  We will offer our families a generous amount of flexibility and understanding during this period of adjustment, and we ask that you do the same for us.

We encourage you to practice social distancing and continue to practice good hygiene in order to protect your family and help prevent the spread of the virus.

We are grateful to our Board of Trustees for their on-going leadership and support during these challenging times.   Please watch for additional details.

Stay safe,

Gina Panza
