Our Students are Stacking it Up!

By November 15, 2019January 19th, 2024No Comments2 min read

As part of the physical education program at St. Thomas’s, the students participated in the fifth annual cup stacking “STACK UP” Day on November 14. This was an effort through the World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) to break the Guinness World Record for the “Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day”. All participants received a sticker showing that they took part in the day and will be counted toward the world record.

The PE program at St. Thomas’s is more than just athletic games and fun, as participating in something such as Cup Stacking Day has much more meaning. Cup stacking is a fitness-based activity that improves hand-eye coordination, develops fine motor skills in both hands, uses a high level of focus and concentration, and requires the students to “cross the midline” of their body. Research shows that cup stacking can even improve reading test scores and cross-patterning brain development. Most importantly, cup stacking is an inclusive event where everyone can participate.
